What a strange time we’re going through right now, we’re all stuck at home in isolation. For a lot of us this means we’re being a lot less active than we were a couple of weeks ago. That’s not necessarily great for our waistline.
I’ve noticed that in the last few weeks that I’ve gained a little bit of weight. Nothing wrong with that but I want to nip it in the bud now so that I don’t have to really struggle to get it off later on. This is mostly due to not moving as much and also being in such close proximity to the kitchen at all times of the day 😐
Likely a few of you are in the same boat as me, or perhaps you’re sitting at the same weight and can’t seem to shift it. I thought I’d share a few tips and give some perspective on how to combat this and stay lean and mean in quarantine!
3500 kcal = 1 lbs ( half a kilo ) of body fat.
Divide that by 7 ( 7 days ) = 500 kcal a day.
Or alternatively divide it by 14 ( 14 days ) = 250 kcal
250 kcal is roughly a standard mars bar or snickers bar.
Think of it like this, if you're not gaining or losing any weight at the moment, but you are actually keen to lose a bit. By just cutting out a daily snack, like a chocolate bar etc, with everything else staying exactly the same by the end of the month you’ll have shed a kilo of fat. That's exciting. with just a little bit of motivation and consistency, you can really make a difference.
between now and mid June ( summer time ), you’ll have lost somewhere in the range of 2.5 kg or 5 lbs of fat. That is a serious change in your physique. Let’s be honest, from a very small change in your diet.
If I think of it like this, and break it down into chunks, it seems very achievable. Once you get in the routine of it, it will become quite satisfying.
I know the thought of counting calories seems like overkill for some, but for me occasionally it works. For example, my last kickboxing fight I had, I lost seven kilos this way. I knew that as long as I stuck to it, I would reach my desired weight come fight day. It can actually be quite comforting for some, knowing that as long as you trust the process, you will reach that goal.
Remember, it’s the small things, done daily that add up to big changes! Stick with it guys and stay safe.
